HOW TO GET RELAXED AFTER WORK

22 WAYS TO DE-STRESS AFTER STRESSFUL DAY

I often left work thinking that I had left the stress of work behind me, but over time I realized I do not relax because I can’t stop thinking of something significant that happened that day, or I am processing some ideas about the new project. When it comes to adverse events such as unfair actions of colleagues or clients or some other dissatisfaction with the situation, and when repeated quite often, it can lead to obsession and constant thinking about events at work.

Do you need some inspiration on how to destress after work? The day could be intense, but it’s easy to unwind after a tough day at the job if you follow few tips. The most important thing is to be aware that we are under the influence of stress and then accept that it is possible. Then decide to change that. It sounds simple, and sometimes we think we are already going through those stages, but that is not always the case. So we need to dedicate some time to us our mental health and make some changes that will be positive for us and make us happy.

Enjoy returning home from work

Returning home from work can be stressful due to several factors such as traffic jams, or you are tired and have to drive home for half an hour or more, for example.

  • The best way to start your relaxation is to first think about going home, that you will see your family or see your close friend, that you will make dinner, or maybe paint. All these positive thoughts change your mood immediately.

  • If you love music, let go of some upbeat rhythms and sing; even though you may not know how to sing, there is no need to get excited about it, you are alone in the car, and you can enjoy as much as you want. I sing even when my little girl (2 years old) is in the car. She looks at me a little oddly, but she loves his mother like any child, so she doesn’t blame meJ.

Take a Long Drive

Another way to start your relaxation ritual is a little longer ride. I usually like to go to places or parts of the city where I have never been. Sightseeing houses and people somehow make me start thinking about other things unrelated to everyday life. Sometimes it’s good to take a countryside tour too for a moment to leave all the complicated thoughts behind.

Create a Soothing Home Environment

Creating a positive environment in the home is an essential factor in leaving stress behind and enjoying the home atmosphere. This positivity will also have a positive effect on other family members. A positive atmosphere is vital to relax you more than leaving you in even more stress and make you even more tired.

Deep breathing

Slow breathing helps positively by increasing Heart Rate Variability and bring changes in the central nervous system, which leads to increased relaxation, feelings of comfort, and satisfaction. It reduces anxiety, aggression, and feelings of discomfort and depression.

Self-massage

Self-massage or massage generally has a lot of benefits on our body and mind. It has been proven to have a biomechanical effect by increasing the flexibility of the body. It has a significant positive impact on our hormonal balance, helps reduce pain, and is the most exciting factor for us, which is the psychological effect of massage on a person, increasing the feeling of relaxation.

Get outdoors

Fresh air has a fantastic effect on our psyche as well as on the body. If you live near the sea, lake, or river, take advantage of it. Drink tea or coffee by the water, and it will calm you down and wake up your imagination. I have always loved to walk with a close friend, and sometimes we walk and talk for two hours, forgetting about time and temperature. It happened to me that I was walking on -2 Celsius for two hours. The impact of mild physical activity and fresh air and the exchange of positive energy with friends is fantastic.

Take a nap

An afternoon nap is much more helpful than we think. Even though you sleep well, an afternoon nap can help you relax after work. It can help by improving logical reason. You become less impulsive and have a greater tolerance for frustration.

Exercise

It is estimated that around 75% to 90% of illnesses are caused by stress. Several types of exercises can help us reduce stress. Each of us is an individual. You decide what training you like and enjoy; otherwise, it will be a counterproductive and stressful situation, and you will give up on it.

Meditation and stretching

There is so much evidence about the positive effect of meditation on the human body and psyche. One of them is research Gaëlle Desbordesan instructor in radiology at HMS and a neuroscientist at MGH’s Martinos Center for Biomedical Imaging. She fined brain activity on functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI). After eight weeks of meditation, the scan showed activity in the amygdala, a cluster of almond-shaped cells positioned close to the brain. Candidates watched emotionally filled content before they learned meditation. Then after eight weeks of practicing meditation, research shows that the amygdala is less activated. Isn’t that amazing!

Take a cold and hot shower

Eastern medicine believes that when we have a problem in some area in our body, that is a physical, spiritual, or emotional obstruction. It is a matter of blocking qi energy. Dr. Schulze, after 20 years of using various therapies, the doctor believes that the best way to remove this blockage is to improve energy flow with hot-cold hydrotherapy. After one minute, you should shower with hot water for 15-30 seconds with cold-ice water. Be careful.

This therapy must be under the supervision of a doctor. But what I have applied, and that is safe, is very hot water and freezing water within the limits that I can bear. Necessary steps for this therapy at home is:

  • Always have water by your side while doing hydration therapy

  • Do not overdo it with hot and ice water because you will be alone, so you will not have supervision. There is no need – the effect is phenomenal after using only a little warmer/colder water than when we take a standard shower.

  • Repeat hot-cold shower seven times

The therapy does not take much time, but it is fantastic for achieving a state of relaxation and good health.

Treat Yourself

Hot drink

Warm cocoa, exotic hot chocolate, or aromatic infusion/tea always helps me relax and improve my mood.

Take a few-minute break to make some exotic cacao or hot chocolate. Making an exotic drink can be fun and inspiring. Researching which ingredients to use can awaken the imagination and thus divert your attention from obsessive thoughts about work.

Or if you make some aromatic tea and ad some fruits like, for example, mangos that contain a compound called linalool, the main ingredient in lavender essential oil. It may reduce stress and anxiety.

Order Takeout

Find some good movies, games, or just great music, and order your favorite takeaway food. Enjoy a little laziness. My favorite is Vietnamese, Japanese, Chinese food and Pizza :).

Have dinner with a friend

Find a nice cozy restaurant where you will spend the nice magic moment with your best friend enjoying good food, drinks, and chatting.

Spa time

A very effective way to relax after a hard day at work is to create your spa ritual. The foam bath helps a lot, and essential oils, candles, aromatic scents, and light music. It is good to be a little lonely, to dedicate ourselves to our thoughts for which we never have time.

Write in a journal

You write down your thoughts and feelings to recognize and understand those better to help manage your stress.

It is proven. Managing your stress is nothing new. Spend 15 minutes 3-4 times a week writing down your thoughts.

In case you have children, create a Post-Work Ritual

When you have children, it is not a bad idea to have a bedtime ritual. That way, the kids fall asleep faster, and then you have more time for yourself and some of your activities to help you relax after a hard day.

You can also have your ritual of short meditation or deep breathing that can relax you. These techniques do not require much time and provide a lot.

Make Your Non-Work Time Fenomenal

One of the best ways to relieve stress is to focus on something productive and worth devoting yourself to something like that. That means creating balance having a hobby, and relaxing moments that I have already mentioned in the text, such as making your spa, having dinner with friends, and other kinds of pleasure.

Hobbies help build happiness because you are doing something that inspires and motivates you. Psychologists believe that this type of pleasure can lead to improved mood and the creation of joy.

2.       Cook a great meal

Maybe you think you’re not the Chef, or you don’t believe you’re into cooking. But the good news is that it doesn’t matter if you are talented or not for cooking because there are 4 easy recipes to follow and use. According to a New York Daily News article, cooking can help reduce stress. What cooking as a hobby can give you is to divert your thoughts from problems at your job. It could help you develop your creativity, and evoke beautiful feelings of satisfaction when you realize that you have cooked something you have never cooked before. Despite the satisfaction with what you have done, the feeling of self-confidence also improves.

1.       Paint

It has been shown that art can help a lot in diverting attention from problems at work. Creating something through a painting, making sculpture, or tapestry, for example. Or maybe just creating a small collection of drawings draws your attention, and the brain focuses on new but positive challenges. It makes you think of creating something beautiful. You have to try it, at least whether you know how to paint or not.

Dinner in a special restaurant

I like to visit fine-dining restaurants or restaurants with a unique theme and design sometimes. Fine-dining restaurants inspire me a lot when I see and try their dishes because Chefs could be very creative and innovative.

Listen to music

Find slow-paced music you love. Slower tempo music, according to research from the University of Nevada, Reno helps to destress. Remember it has to be slow tempo like Larghetto and Adagio. If you are listening to rock music, the effect will be the opposite.

Read whenever you can

Reading books is a fantastic way to divert your thoughts and relax. There are genuinely phenomenal books that relax you and intrigue you with the topics and information they offer you. Imagine reading about the universe and what has been discovered and undiscovered so far. Or some adventure and a journey through strange landscapes. Numerous attractive topics can relax you and develop a high level of satisfaction.

Spend Time with Animals

Animals have an incredibly positive impact on humans. I love spending time with horses that have significant power to turn stress into one blissful feeling.
