TUSCANY DAY TRIP

Sightseeing of the city with wine tasting and a visit to the castle

Do you know what you would do if you had a day in Tuscany? Or what would you like to see? What you should not miss is a day trip out of town with a visit to a castle and vineyards. This tour gives an unforgettable experience and something you will remember. I will take you to a 13th-century castle and then we will experience Tuscany wine tasting.

Beautiful morning in Tuscany

It’s a new day, new adventures, and a perfectly sunny day. Yesterday I booked a tour of Tuscany, one of the most beautiful parts of Italy. I parked the motorcycle in a safe place because we had organized transportation by the agency. I don’t recommend which agency to choose if you want to go on a tour because everyone has similar prices. But I highly suggest if you can book a tour, do it. Most of the wanderings I organize by myself, but sometimes I think group tours can be significant in a way that you can meet new people and see some of the best things in that particular region. I chose a combination of wine tasting and touring the castle because these are my favorite places I like to see. I got to the center of Siena two hours earlier, so I took the time to see the morning market a bit, where I bought a couple of things. I checked the oil in the engine and inflated the tires.

Tuscany Road – day trip

What is important to me on tours like this is to feel the authentic, original Tuscany. Taste, smell, and color of Tuscany. You will see my selection of cheeses, wines, and accompanying delicacies that go perfectly with wine, in fact, with everything.

The road to the castle itself was beautiful. I thought it would be perfect for riding a motorbike this way, but it is also lovely to sit back in the van and observe all those beautiful landscapes that resemble a fairy tale. The story of the castle and the church from the 13th century by a friendly guide followed. And then we reached the beautiful part where we took pictures as a souvenir and used the time to enjoy the smells that spread through the hills and the sound of birds that created a cheerful atmosphere. It’s so magical! I thought I could stay there forever.

We arrived at the castle

We approached the gates. It reminds me of a movie like Three Musketeers only in the Italian version. I was waiting for a couple of Richelieu’s soldiers to come out with their swords and sabers to fight, hahaha

I have to admit it’s good that I brought glasses. Everything is very bright, and it makes my eyes sensitive and teary. I like Ray-Ban glasses, which I always like to wear in a warm brown color to see everything in warm colors, just as there is only a slight increased intensity in nature.

The castle always housed the whole town with houses, shops, churches, galleries, and everything that made a small place. The shops are small but so nicely decorated in a rustic style. The Italians tried to keep that simple, rustic look. The products they sold looked incredibly delicious, especially the cheeses with all those spices, seeds, herbs, and wrapped in leaves. It’s phenomenal.

I notice prosciutto that smells so strong that it gives you an idea of how tasty it is. Then I saw beside the regional wines, and I saw some other wines from different regions! Great! An ideal place for me.

Tuscany wines and wine tasting

There were also some more expensive wines, but I could try them because they were sold in various doses: 30ml, half a glass, and a full glass. I tried Tignanello 2013. And a few more Tuscan wines but a little older, from 2009 and 2010. Somehow, in my opinion, I feel very fruity flavors present like plum, blueberry and in some wines, I felt a lot of cherry flavors.

I could not feel too many tannins which I prefer, but they were very nice to drink. And so, under the impression of various wines, I bought a couple of delicacies for dinner. There were a couple of cheeses, some juicy prosciutto, olives, and of course, I took a coffee for the morning. That is not just my ritual, but it is a way I am waking up with lots of ideas. It’s pretty inspirational.

I also found a new friend, a small hairy but sweet and cuddly one. I didn’t know his name, but it is a small black cute dog, so cuddly that I couldn’t resist and spend half an hour petting him.

On the other side of a castle, you can find a couple of galleries with beautiful works, primarily paintings, and a few handmade small glass sculptures.

13th Century Church

Furthermore, you will bump on the church from the thirteenth century, built in the Romanesque-Gothic style, which also attracted my attention. A walk around the church and through the streets of the enormous fortress made me go back to fantasizing. The wandering did not last long because it was time to go for a wine tasting. That is the bad side of an organized tour. You cannot stay as much as you would like to, but you can always come back if you have time.

Amazing Tuscany wine tasting experience

It was fascinating to me because we went to visit a private vineyard and try the original Chianti. The drive was short, so we quickly arrived at the property, warmly welcomed by a young man who was supposed to tell us about the wines. Very friendly and likable.

It was nice to listen to him and taste the wines. I liked some of them, although, in this period of my life, I prefer some relatively dry wines, full of tannins and intense flavors such as dark berry berries, pepper and earth, and leader flavors. I also tried olive oil and balsamic vinegar.

It was great to meet people from different parts and hear crazy stories about drunkenness in vineyards like this.

We tested five wines, and I liked two of them. Rosso Toscano from 2012 and Chianti Classico from 2014. Those wines were quite fruity with some dried herbs flavor and a hint of smokiness. ‘Besides Sangiovese, Chianti wines may contain wine grapes like Canaiolo, Colorinocabernet sauvignon, and Merlot. White grapes were once allowed in Chianti Classico, but not anymore. If you want to know more about Chianti, see the links below the text.

I wasn’t impressed by crackers and cheese, but maybe my expectations are higher. I enjoyed the company, small chat and nice wines, definitely something different from wines I drinked before. It was a pleasant experience that lasted a short time, and it was time to go back to the city.

Returning to the city

Upon returning to the city, I walked more, and I must admit that it takes a bit of fitness to walk around Siena. The whole area is quite hilly. I need to walk up and down the entire city.  I didn’t want to go anywhere for dinner, but to have a nice rest because I’m going to pack up and go to another town.

I have to admit that I am pretty tired from the incredible journey, but I am still held by adrenaline and the desire to go further. I also know that I will sleep well and that in the morning, it will be a totally different story. I will be full of energy and will to go further.

The next city I go to is quite exquisite, and I will stay there for three days, which should give me enough time to feel the atmosphere and see some of the sights I wanted. Although I didn’t make any particular plan, I had a couple of ideas of what I needed to see.

You can read more about the city where I’m going tomorrow in the next blog post, next week, and now it’s time for me to pack at least partially so that I don’t have to in the morning. After loading my suitcase, I had dinner and drank tea with an excellent book that I brought with me. I recommend it in my video. The book is ideal for travel and is very inspiring and is called ‘Lives of famous French painters – from Ingres to Picasso,’ by Herman J. Wechsler.

I hope this sightseen tour was inspirational for you. I think I made the most of this and the previous day in Siena, the Tuscan region. In an area like this, known for wine, you should not miss wine tasting. Maybe you are not a wine lover, but the taste changes over time. Wines are so different, not only from year to year, but each region provides some new and various flavors of wine.

And so my evening ended, of course, I fell asleep at 9 o’clock, tired and satisfied. Tomorrow I will continue the journey I started on August 11th.
