WALK AROUND ROME, ITALY

ROME IN A DAY

Is it your first time in Rome? Can you explore Rome on foot? Is it worth it just to walk through Rome without visiting significant attractions? Or did you come to Rome on business and have one day or afternoon to visit it?

Rome, like any other great city, has a lot to see, but what sets it apart from other cities is its history and architecture. Only walking and wandering the streets of Rome can awaken emotions, curiosity, and creativity. That’s why I decided that my first day in Rome would be wandering and spontaneously discovering the emperors of this great metropolis.

I will share with you a few places I found while walking around the city, without a map. I believe that these are smaller attractions of great Rome, but they are just as beautiful as other tourist places.

Just walking through Siena, which is a much smaller place than Rome, we saw that the difference is immeasurable because of the atmosphere and way of life.

On the road again

Another beautiful morning! Hello to everyone who reads my blog! I hope you find it at least a little inspiring. This and the following article will deal with my journey through the largest city in Italy, Rome. You will be able to see a couple of my favorite places in Rome that I think you shouldn’t miss. Also, I have to admit that I have a couple of attractions that I plan to see on another visit to Rome because I am planning to come back.

Packing time

Before I left, I had to finish packing and find some space in my suitcase for sandals, T-shirts, and swimsuits that I bought. I am definitely delighted with the Italian design and the swimmers who called us phenomenal. After trying on the swimsuit and T-shirt, I packed up somehow and got ready to go.

It got a little cloudy. I looked at the weather forecast and saw that some rain would fall in Siena, so I gave up from the breakfast in Siena and headed straight to Rome, where sunny weather was forecast. I bought chain oil along the way, so I will find someplace in Rome to fix my machine :).

The trip was as great as before. It didn’t last long. All in all, maybe 2.5 hours. I missed the ride a bit. Before I planned the whole trip, even while I was in Belgrade, I desired to go along the south coast, which would be a much longer route, but I gave up, it was too complicated. It might not be a difficult trip, but I didn’t want to take the risk because I’m traveling alone, and I didn’t plan the trip to be longer than two weeks because I had to return to New Zealand.

Highway break & breakfast

On the highway, I stopped to have breakfast at one of the gas stations. Just to get fuel and eat something, I was starving.

When I parked at the gas station, I could see a pack of children going to a sports competition and their coach, a middle-aged woman, elegantly filled, with a slightly rougher voice, a smiling face, and very cordial. I was a little surprised because she addressed me, of course, in Italian.

Anyone who reads my blog knows that I don’t know Italian except for a few words and numbers that are not so useful. It seems to me that I understood that she asked me where I was from. And when she heard that I was from Serbia, she was delighted because she knew about Novak Djokovic.

Nole, thank you! You are the best PR in our country. I tried to explain to her that I don’t learn Italian, but the woman is very willing to communicate. Even today, I don’t know how we understand each other, but we had a good time. Somehow we communicated in 3 languages, English, French and Italian hahaha. That was a lot of fun!

I was quite hungry so I ordered breakfast fast. When I entered the station, I smelled lasagna, which I couldn’t resist.

After breakfast, I headed to Rome. It was hot. I kept the phone in a tank bag in a transparent pocket to follow the navigation, but it was so warm that the battery in my phone was running out at high speed. Luckily David gave me an external battery, and that led me to my accommodation. Long live my mechanic!

Welcome to Rome

As soon as I arrived at the hotel, I inquired where it was safest to park the motorbike. The best option was a private garage behind the corner, which is under video surveillance. I didn’t want to take any risks, especially since Rome is a big city. The accommodation was excellent. It was The Building Hotel, you can find the link below the text. I booked at a time when it was at a significant 50% discount. And I have to admit that I have a great bed, comfortable and large, as well as pleasant colors of grayish-white.

I left my things, took a shower, and went to the foyer to drink coffee to see what I would do the rest of the day. Eventually, to be organized for the next day in case you need to book a ticket for a museum. I also looked to find a mechanic to inspect my engine and be somewhere along the way. I like to organize some things in advance to don’t wander around looking for what I need.

For the rest of the day, I planned to walk downtown, to see the small buildings, streets, and feel the atmosphere of Rome. Maybe I’ll go to dinner somewhere, draw a little bit, read, then walk again … I’ll see.

Walk around Rome

I headed slowly toward the city center. The streets are really spacious, expansive, crowded and surrounded by parks and old buildings.  There are many wanderers, and I don’t feel very safe if I go alone late at night. I passed a beautiful square, one of the most famous in Rome, ‘Piazza Della Repubblica,’ gorgeous. I immediately saw the ‘Fountain of the Naiads‘, which leaves me breathless. There were also a couple of beautiful restaurants as well as a cinema. Really great to see.

I continued on, passing by the ‘Fontana Del Mose’ (COEPIT PONT AN AND ABSOLVIT III MDLKSKSKSVII).

3. Fontana Del Mosè
4. Teatro Salone Margherita

Night in Rome

And so I wandered until I came across a small theater, ‘Theater Salone Margherita.’ The entrance itself was so appealing that I couldn’t resist. I saw that La Traviata was being given, and I immediately took a ticket for that evening. There were several options. I opted for the middle row and drinks and food during the break because I didn’t have dinner.

I could hardly wait for the opera to start. Apart from the opera in Verona, I had never been to an opera show before in this kind of cafe-small theatre. As the same show thrilled me in Verona, I wanted to see it in a different form again. Whoever reads my blog stories, knows that opera in Verona took place under the open sky, on a massive stage in the Arena.

This La Traviata takes place in a small theater on a small scene where the singers move through the cafe surrounding the auditorium and design a cabaret. It was terrific, and I would recommend both shows to everyone because it feels different in both locations.

During the break, it was dinner time, in my case, I ordered wine and pasta, It was a few different options, besides pasta as well as a few spirits and cocktails as a drink. I met an elderly couple who came from America and enjoyed the holidays, just like me. Very nice people, lovers of good food and beer. I’m surprised they didn’t book a table with the whole dinner during the show :).

Streets of Rome

My return home was in the late hours. It is beautiful to see the streets of Rome under the night lights while walking. It seems really magical. I didn’t have much to walk, maybe half an hour. That walk, that warm evening in Rome, reminded me of many walks I had with my close friend Olja Indjic. We were able to walk for hours, in the heat, in the cold weather at minus 5. The temperature never bothered us.

Beautiful memories were running through my head. Walking through the streets and watching people in restaurants enjoying sipping dessert wine after a delicious meal, and exchanging opinions or telling stories that will forever remain in the memories.

Time to rest and sleep

I reached the room as well. A spacious, soft bed was waiting for me. My feet are sore from walking, so I retook a shower to help my legs recover a bit and relax. I have to be ready and fresh for tomorrow’s wanderings around Rome.

I didn’t mention face skincare, especially for girls who ride motorcycles because our skin is exposed to the wind, sun, and cold when we ride in winter. Maybe men don’t think it affects them, but when your skin cracks from the wind, it can be pretty uncomfortable and even painful. Especially the place around the eyes, lips, and even hands.

Skin protection recommendation

There are now many skin products for both men and women and special needs such as wind and sun protection. There is a couple of products that I personally like to use. You can look below the tex where the valuable links are.

Also, for men, I have a couple of recommendations for creams and oils used for prevention and a couple of creams you can use when the skin is already damaged. If I don’t have any cream with me, I always use some cold-pressed oil, the first one I find. Sometimes it’s olive, sometimes coconut oil. It really doesn’t matter which one because they are all of good quality and they can successfully protect your skin and hair from the wind.

When I have eye cream, I often put the cream first and then the oil. It really protects the skin and makes it soft. I don’t have any particular advice for the hair, except to tie it in a ponytail and put it under the jacket. There is an excellent product that protects the hair, and you can see it in the section below the text. – Cosmetics recommendation

Time to rest before…

It is time for sleep! It was an amazing day! Just a simple walk through the streets of Rome, So many spots to see, summer atmosphere and Italian spirit around me made me feel so happy. The city is huge, and besides that, it is surrounded by art and creativity. Sometimes we need just simple things to enjoy life.
